I’m always proud to be an American. However, today, the day when the first Black (actually, biracial) president has sworn an oath to uphold the office of the President of the United States, is more significant.
I was one of the unfortunate ones who had to work during the actual oath of office and the speech. My employer doesn’t allow us to watch streaming media. When I got home and watched President Obama take the Oath of Office on CNN.com, I was filled with pride. Our country has come a long way in 200 years. Only 30 or so years ago, blacks and whites were not allowed to marry each other in several states. Only 50 or so years ago, blacks had to sit in the back of the bus and drink from separate drinking fountains. 150 years ago, slavery was still going strong. Now, we have our first biracial president.
But, we still have quite a ways to go. I have faith that our new President and his administration will bring about change that is so desperately needed in our country.
Plus, it feels so great to say President Obama!
